Basic Idea
Posts. Are. Too. Long. Let's face it, you have to be a genius to want to read some of the 10 pagers, and have waaay to much free time to actually do it. Therefore, I suggest something I've suggested before: 100 word posts.
Sure, you'll still have to be a genius to understand them, but this idea has two advantages: Shorter posts allow for a quicker entry preperation time. And a shorter message is pretty much always more powerful. What do you remember from a speech? A couple of short, powerful lines. 100 words is a perfect thing for this. No introductions, just get at it.
Also, this could be a good addition to the site. It would be short, and easy to include. 100 words is not hard to fit in. I can see it already =P
This is also a good stimulus to get people thinking more, and to get people involved more.
Variables
Time frame: I have no idea about this. I'm guessing about a week per entry
Entry type: Again, this is variable. I'd recommend that people post it on their own blogs. If they don't have a blog, post it on their ZB ones.
Details (Updated 31st July) (Vague, currently)
~3 Judges. This is to ensure that judges can participate. I suggest Me, Sayf and TLV, if he can do it. Judging critera yet to be decided upon, will be posted here.
~100 Word limit. Duh
~Set topic. Some sort of line which can be agreed with, or disagreed with. "Chess is not a sport", "We don't know how lucky we are" or even "There IS a God"
~NO QUOTES FROM OTHER MEMBER'S ENTRIES ALLOWED. You will be allowed to pull in quotes from threads if you really need them to enforce an idea of other people's opinions, but they will be counted in your word count, so choose very carefully.
~Individual opinions are what we're going for, but these must be backed up. If you bash something, you must have a reason why.
Best release date EST
If I had to do this right now, it'd be up in 1-2 weeks, depending on judges etc. However, again, I think that we should wait for sayf to come back, and I also need to make sure that TLV can do judging. Otherwise, we need to pull someone else in. I reckon, this will be best released around a week's timeframe from the site's launch.
